In charge

Friday, I presented the first meeting of my committee in Geeky Science Organization. Today, I received my first email as such.

It's a scary thought, being in charge. I have to organize things, talk to people, answer their questions, keep track of who did what, where and how.

It's not that I don't like what I am doing: if anything, I love the Research Committee and what it does. But somehow, I don't feel like I have the ability to handle it responsibly enough.

On the other hand, practice is the best teacher, and if there is no other way to survive than to do what I am supposed to do, then all is for the best.

Really.

I just wish they realized I mostly have no idea what I'm doing.

be careful what you wish for, they say. :-) i'll bet you're putting up a good front. i love the entire notion that someone called "the archdutchess" is part of Geeky Science Organization. that's awesome. :-)

Oh Archduchess, you will either never make a politician (with a small 'p') or you are an exceptionally good one.

People follow when they have confidence in the leader. Never wish that people don't know what you are doing (sorry about the Uncle GB mode) because then everything can fall apart.

Instinct tells me that you'll be just fine!

Most people have no clue what they're doing, but because people like you try so hard and are so composed the rest of us think you're totally in control.

You will learn.

And the most important thing is that you're qualified for the position, which you most certainly are.
