Overheard at the Unabridged Sustenance cheese counter this afternoon:
"I'd like to bake this here brie into a sheet of pastry, 'cause I guess it's what people do. What kind of toppings can I put on it?"
Whoever invented the "holiday Brie" with jam, nuts, and pastry, had a very, very twisted sense of humor.

I'm inclined to agree with you over brie with that particular combination but I first tasted baked (without pastry, of course) brie with cranberries and baked goats cheese in France. It's only a small step to adding embelishments which may seem bizarre to you and me.
Heavens, people may next be talking of using Roquefort in a soup.
