Girl From Nicaragua will be gone all of this coming week to housesit for one of her professors. That means I have the house to myself.
That also means that I might not see her again before I leave.
That brings to mind the thought that I am leaving soon.
Which means my days with The Boy are numbered.
And that Dad and Sis will also be coming back in a week.
If Sis comes back at all.
Which means that, in a week, I will know if Mom is coming back or if my family will be split up into a million tiny pieces on two separate continents, thousands of miles, and immeasurable amounts of water.
I wish, I wish that my last week of insouciance lasts forever. Even if I'm stalling for time that may already be up.
Athena, you who bade time to stop for Odysseus and his fair Penelope, please lend me time. Time to pretend, time to forget, time to hide my head under a blanket and make believe I am still safe.
