Thursday is Plant Day.
From 11:30 to 14:00, I sit, stand, amble, climb, dodge, crawl, and otherwise contort myself to negotiate the precious small space available in the confines of the Greenhouse.
From 11:30 to 14:00, I greet the stray customer who wanders in, almost by accident, and explain the difference between mother-of-thousands and chandelier kalanchoe plants.
From 11:30 to 14:00, I re-pot, prune, water, organize, clean, and coo over an odd assortment of plants ranging from strawberries to bromeliads to jade plants and including the giant pencil plant that long ago decided to forsake such worldly things as boundaries and pots and took root in the gravel bed of a shelf and has since grown five feet tall, four inches thick, and six feet wide.
Today, Ivaliantly fought scraped off a bug invasion from the underside of mint leaves, determined that the Weed That Smells Like Basil isn't actually basil, discovered a forgotten but seemingly bottomless supply of clay pots behind a rusted and broken door under one of the shelves, and attempted to scrub off the antique white stains on the windowpanes, to no avail.
Thursday from 11:30 to 14:00 is my time for the plants. I can forget about the hustle and bustle of the world around me and admire the tiny, slowly growing bear paws and dragonfruit hidden in a miniature forest of greenery.

I hope you talk to them! Nothing helps plants along like a good chat.
