Completely batty

I saw Mexican free tailed bats flying around catching insects tonight.

It is not surprising, the City is home to the largest urban colony in North America.

Still, it is always a welcome surprise to see a small bird pass you by and then realize that it's not a bird at all because it is flip-flopping, furry, and is making noises like a creaky door in a bad horror movie.

The City colony eats between 20000 and 30000 pounds of mosquitoes every night.

That is very good news indeed.

20000 pounds. Thats not much. but 20000 pounds = 20 tons and that's a HUGE amount of mozzies. What fantastic creatures are Mexican free tailed bats!
