Miracles do happen

D-day minus one.

Rehearsal went almost without a glitch today. The lighting was almost perfect, scene changes happened without major catastrophes, and no one forgot their lines.

The music, however, is still awful (Ella Fitzgerald, no matter how wonderful she is, is utterly inappropriate after a rape scene in a late 19th-century play).

We learned how to do stage makeup, and immediately all of the boys shot us nervous glances. They looked more terrified of those brushes than if a rabid bear had shown up in the dressing room. They surrendered to our slightly more knowledgeable hands, and everyone managed to look more or less presentable by the time we were called onstage (except for someone's mustache, which didn't want to stay on and was half-on, half-off and therefore needed to be held in place.)

It was rather hilarious.

Especially when the decanter which someone had brought from home as a prop was found to be still half-full of Scotch. The owner took it upon herself to see to that problem and consequently was slightly cheerier than usual during her performance.

Mom, Bro, Sis, German Neighbor, and Very Smart Neighbor are coming from City Back Home Saturday night to see the play.

You were right, GB! It may turn out fine after all!

(Whew.)

Well done, Your Highness!

I've just posted the first title of the online bookclub! We're going to take turns hosting the discussions and choosing the books each month and everyone's welcome.
