I spent the better part of my afternoon conversing in haiku with various strangers. It is strangely stimulating and soothing. You have to think before you speak, which eliminated most useless chatter and angry words spoken in the heat of the moment.
Maybe if the rest of the world spoke in haiku there wouldn't be as many wars?

But well, I feel a haiku's charm is lost in English. Afterall, how would you know the 17 syllables unless you knew Japanese?
Yes, true haikus are in Japanese... But I do not speak Japanese, so I have to write my haikus in English.
And haikus translated from Japanese do lose their charm... Not only must the translator strive to keep the poet's meaning, he or she must also keep within the 5/7/5 format.
Haiku is an art,
Not to be taken lightly,
Be brief and concise.
