Ribbon-cutting ceremony

Drumroll, please.

As you may know, I have participated in C. Beth's Art Pen Pal project. Participants were assigned a person to send a project to, and received a project from another participant. I was lucky--quite lucky--to receive shiny new blog jewelery from beckiwithani!

I am quite proud of the new banner and favicon (yes, that sock up there in the address bar) which now proclaim my love of all things woolly and sock-shaped in a blog supposedly about socks which otherwise sadly lacks direct references to said garments.

This, as well as other events, have prompted me to name 2009 the year of Making My Blog More Interesting.

It was originally created for writing--so writing there will be. NaBloPoMo 2008, with its daily posting schedule, did take a lot away from the quality of the writing, and I regret that. I did like posting every day, but it is somewhat distracting to both post on schedule and when inspiration strikes. I like both the daily, this-is-what-happened-to-me-today-wouldn't-you-believe-it blogging and the more reasoned, here-is-what-I-think-about-the-Universe blogging, so I will try to alternate them in a reasonable fashion.

One of the topics I really enjoy is memories. Therefore, I will tell you about various people, places, and things which somehow impacted my life.

Another is argumenting--trying to organize the Universe in my head so that it makes sense, and sharing that with the world.

A third is cooking. I love to cook, however rarely (a definite setback to living in a dorm), and would like to share food, recipes, and experiments with a whole, wide world of people who perhaps couldn't care less or might somehow have a life-changing experience because of a dish (I must say, that eggplant gratin I ate in Germany was, for lack of a better word, an epiphany.)

A fourth (my, this list is getting long) is books, and while I do not want to become a book-review site, I owe many wonderful discoveries to enthusiastic and friendly librarians, and I cannot thank them enough.

A fifth item, not really a topic but, in my opinion of crucial importance, is humor. It makes life worthwhile and makes the world a better place. A good laugh can always save a crummy day.

That's it for tonight, but from now on, this blog will be (I hope) a worthy read.

Just discovered your Blog - courtesy of you following me (I always think that sounds vaguely stalker-ish!) thank you. Looking forward to reading more.
You've really messed up the Google map I was aiming to do of bloggers I visit. Some just have USA which is vague enough but 'The World' where do I put a blob for that Tristan da Cunha?
(As far as recipes go - My life changed the day I tried to explain the ingredients of lemon meringue pie to a pair of German girls in the same youth hostel but that's another story!)

Well, thanks for returning the favor and reading my blog! I am quite honored, really.

Should you really need to pinpoint me on a map, I am in the US (still vague), in Texas (not quite as vague), in the city that is commonly believed to have the tallest capitol building but is actually bested by the Louisiana capitol (as I recently found out).

I'm curious to know the story of your lemon meringue pie...
